BNS - The board of the Bank of Estonia has confirmed Vice President Andres Sutt's appointment as senior adviser with the Nordic-Baltic Constituency of the International Monetary Fund starting from August.
The central bank said the appointment is by way of regular rotation among the eight countries forming the constituency.
"Eight years in the position of Bank of Estonia vice president has been a long time and I think now is the right time for change. The IMF gives me an opportunity to pursue an international career and at the same time support the cooperation between Estonia and the IMF," Sutt said.
Estonian banking has been coping well with hard times and the cooperation with Nordic countries, especially Sweden, has been good, the vice president said. "To my mind, it is cooperation that gives us confidence today and in times to come that the local banking system will survive the global financial crunch," he said.
The central bank announced a competition to fill the position at the beginning of this year.
The Nordic-Baltic Constituency comprises Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Iceland and Denmark.
