Estonia signs investment protection accord with Georgia

BNS - Estonia's Minister of Economy and Communications Juhan Parts signed today in Tbilisi a bilateral agreement on promoting and protecting investments.

The minister for economic development, Zurab Pololikashvili, inked the pact on behalf of Georgia, the Ministry of Economy and Communications said.

The agreement lays down investment conditions, establishes the procedure of settling disputes and regulates expropriation of investments and payment of compensation that goes with it.

Under the accord both countries' investors are ensured equal treatment with local investors and investors from third countries.

Parts is visiting Georgia from Monday till Wednesday. The program of the visit includes meetings with Prime Minister Nika Gilauri, Deputy Prime Minister David Tkeshelashvili and Energy Minister Alexander Khetaguri. Under discussion are possibilities for cooperation in the economy, information technology and energy.

On Tuesday afternoon the minister will take part in an Estonian-Georgian business forum.

Parts is accompanied by a delegation of Estonian businesspeople.
