BNS - The Estonian government on Tuesday endorsed the national program for biotechnology that envisages the state providing more than half a billion kroons (EUR 32 mln) to finance biotech development activity and enterprise over the next four years.
The purpose of the program is to steeply increase, through state support, the economic effect from the development of biotechnology in the food industry and biomedicine by the year 2013, the Ministry of Economy and Communications said.
The implementation of the national program is expected to lead to several qualitative changes in the sector's development.
The program is centered around pro-market activities such as product development in food industry and finding of export markets and marketing channels in the field of biomedicine.
One of the goals of the program is wider implementation of biotech applications to increase productivity and value-added in Estonia's traditional branches of industry.
