BNS - Estonian airports of Kardla, Kuressaare, Ruhnu and Tartu are to receive 242 million kroons (EUR 15.5 mln) of European regional development support for development under a decree the minister of economy signed today.
The ministry said the project focuses on eliminating the trouble spots of regional airports and improving air traffic safety.
The development plan takes account of the particular needs of the airports. In Kuressaare, for instance, the runway will be extended, in Kardla and Tartu the passenger terminals will be renovated, and in Ruhnu a weatherproof runway will be built.
As a result of the project, air traffic safety will improve and conditions will be created for aircraft maintenance in line with requirements and the keeping of maintenance equipment and planes, the ministry said.
The works started in June 2008 and are scheduled to be completed by the end of 2010.
