Port of Tallinn CEO to speak about Estonia's advantages as transit country in Moscow

BNS - Ain Kaljurand, CEO of Port of Tallinn, will make as report at a transit conference in Moscow on Wednesday, speaking about the advantages of Estonia as a transit channel.

Kaljurand told BNS that he would speak about the advantages offered by Eesti Raudtee (Estonian Railway), terminals and ports capable of receiving large ships.

"At the present economically difficult time the integral package is a clear advantage for the owner of goods," Kaljurand said.

The port manager said that there were certain positive signs concerning Russian transit but no major increasing freight volumes were in sight for the time being.

Kaljurand said that it was unrealistic to hope that changes in terms of Russia transit could take place fast, rather, they will happen gradually.

After the removal of a Red Army soldier monument from central Tallinn to a military cemetery Estonia lost a large proportion of its Russian transit.

The annual Transrussia transit fair is taking place in Moscow this week. Besides Kaljurand also CEO of Eesti Raudtee Kaido Simmermann and one of the owners of the Sillame port, Tiit Vahi, will take part in it.
