BNS - Turkish Airlines is planning to open a direct air route between Tallinn and Istanbul in summer 2010, the president of the Turkish airline company Tremel Kotil said at a meeting with visiting Estonian Foreign Minister Urmas Paet in Istanbul.
"The launch of a direct Tallinn-Istanbul air route will create new opportunities for intensifying cooperation in economy, tourism and culture," Paet was quoted by spokespeople as saying.
He said Estonians' interest toward Turkey has been relatively big, with more than 22,000 passengers visiting that country last year via travel agencies alone.
Travelers' interest is definitely boosted also by the fact that Istanbul will serve as European Capital of Culture in 2010 and Tallinn in the year after that, Paet added.
